Paul resolves his teaching on Christian unity, by expressing explicitly that the goal of our love and harmony in the Church – it’s ultimate purpose is to make manifest the GLORY of God. And so Paul doesn’t limit his instruction to merely a set of moral platitudes extolling the virtue of right relationships… BUT WHAT THE APOSTLE IS AFTER here is Christ exalting, Gospel saturated, God glorifying fellowship! We will not have succeeded as local assemblies if we become known as just a group friendly people – or because we have good teaching or good music or good programs or because we do this or that well. The only measure of true success we may enjoy – is if we become known and marked as a people besotted with the Glory of God.
