Romans 10:1-4

When we underestimate God’s Holiness, two gigantic fatal mistakes simultaneously occur. We begin to imagine that God is a little more tolerant of evil than He is, and we begin to imagine that we’re a little bit better than we are. That is the compost and fertilizer of self-righteousness, and it is exactly what caused the Jews in Paul’s day to miss Christ. We pull God down a little, shove ourselves up a little, and we begin to think that maybe we can make it on our own. This is the fatalism of every works based religious system on the planet, and it’s still swindling millions of souls today.
