Matthew has one final approach in demonstrating that Jesus is King, and that is by affirming that a herald was sent in advance to announce and prepare for His coming! This week we’re introduced to John the Baptist, as God now through John breaks 400 years of prophetic silence in Israel. The Lord sent John to prepare people hearts for the Messiah, by helping them to see and repent of their sin. This ministry of seeing and repenting of our sin, is a vital ministry the Holy Spirit continues today in our hearts. If we are going to grow as Christians, we must see our own sin rather than the sins of others. Christian growth requires that we constantly live and move in breath in the rhythm of confession and repentance.
