As long as we don’t see our desperate need for Christ, we will remain in chains, never coming into the maturity of fully delighting in Him. As long as a man thinks more highly of himself than he ought, he is undermining his appreciation for Christ. This week in Luke 4, Jesus is rejected in His hometown. He then disappears from their midst, because they did not see their need for Him. Though it runs against the grain of the “you are awesome gospel” so popular today – the Word of God teaches that recognizing our depravity is quite paradoxically the very first step we can take towards fully delighting in Him. Either you’re preeminently awesome or He is; pretty important you wrestle that one to the ground. Get your Word on with us, where delighting in Christ is our supreme objective.
