Luke Chapter 4 brings us to Satan’s temptation of Christ in the wilderness, where among other things, we clear up a number of misconceptions the church has concerning the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Somehow we have subscribed to this idea that the Holy Spirit always leads us to Happy Town or Dairy Queen, and yet the biblical narrative paints a very different picture, where the text shows us that the Holy Spirit leads Jesus into the wilderness to confront Satanic temptation. God does not allow us to be tested that we might sin, but rather that we would learn to overcome sin. Christ answers every one of the devil’s temptations, by directly quoting the Word of God.
