In a moment of ill preparation, Peter reacts and pulls out his sword and cuts off the ear of the high priest’s servant. Peter’s actions were produced by overconfidence, prayerlessness, and not listening to the Word of God incarnate. And yet Jesus reaches right out and heals and restores the wounded man’s ear. Now you and I may not wield a sword, but the Bible says we can cut and wound with our words. What a stunning thing that we have a Savior that can come and bind up and heal what we have so carelessly damaged and destroyed in our own carnality. What a glorious thing that our Lord can bring good from our blunders and restore our mistakes. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. Get your Word on with us, where we press into Christ and pray for the restoration of our own severed hearing.
