Long before he became the father of the faith of Romans 4, Abraham was a man that struggled with the promises of God. But each time he did, God gently and lovingly reiterated His promises, on one occasion even walking him outside and using the innumerable stars on a clear night sky as a measure of the coming blessing. Under the Lord’s care this man was led to a robust faith unmatched in the Scriptures and became the spiritual father of all who would believe. God was not mad at Abraham as his fledgling faith developed; God was not upset or disappointed – and neither is the Lord disappointed with our underdeveloped faith as we are finding our way to glory.
