In the 5th stop on our 7-church tour, we come now to the Church at Sardis, who are called in a seeming contradiction – “the dead church.” A busy and wealthy and active church, it is predominantly populated by unregenerate people. The scariest part about being spiritually dead?  Not knowing it according to Jesus. In the order of the letters themselves, we’re given fascinating insight into the slow decline of a church.  In Ephesus, the believers there had left their first love. Skipping over to Pergamos, they had begun tolerating false teaching. In Thyatira, they embraced and even advocated false teaching  –  and now here in Sardis – the church is dead. Dead in the pulpit and dead in the pews. The pattern is illuminating.  As our love begins to cool for Christ, we allow other affections to creep through the front doors of the church. And when we begin to tolerate and accept false teaching, your church is on the path to a slow but sure death. However, in His grace and mercy, the risen Lord gives the Church as Sardis and sleepy saints everywhere  –  His 5-point plan to resurrect a zombie church!  Get your Word on with us!
