Peter begins his discourse on the character of false teachers in 2nd Peter 2.  Disguised as the real deal, the enemy plants his false teachers among God’s people in order to gain acceptance and access. They will use our vocabulary, but not our dictionary. They will use our vernacular, but not our theology.  And having infiltrated the Church, false teachers will begin to sow their plastic doctrines right alongside the metal of the truth, in order to deceive and draw away the more biblically illiterate among us, with flattering speech directed at glorifying you rather than Christ.  Greed and sensuality are their motives, and yet they are no match for those of God’s children who are anchored in the knowledge of the Scriptures.  The best defense against a counterfeit, is always to be intimately familiar with the genuine article.
