Peter exhorts believers to make certain of their assurance in salvation, that they may live fruitful lives to the glory of God, and enjoy the tremendous benefits that the appropriation of the believer’s security brings. The Apostle tells us that the way that we know we are among the chosen of God, is to be manifesting an increasing level of Christian virtue in our lives. Now to be sure we’re not saved by the exercise of virtue, but rather the exercise of virtue is evidence that we are saved. As we walk in the beautiful Christian virtues God has given us the capacity to walk in, Peter gives us the thrilling news that we will make certain our calling and election, grow in the extraordinary benefits of assurance, and by these things be brought to the fullness of joy in the Christian experience.
