John says to us this week in 1st John 3, that “This is His COMMANDMENT, that we believe in the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, just as He commanded us.” How interesting that what appear to be two commands are referred to by John in the singular imperative voice. You see, believing in Christ and loving one another are not mutually exclusive commands – they are causal and harmonious and simultaneous. John is telling us you cannot love God, without having an abiding love for your brother at the same time. In fact, we discover this week in Chapter 3, that any dysfunction we have in our horizontal relationships with one another, these are simply symptoms of some dysfunctionality in our vertical relationship with God. Get your Word on with us, where we seek to lay the Axe to the root and make much of Jesus Christ.
