The reason Jewish Christians in the early Church were still under bondage to the Law, was because 1st century Jews were more captivated by what their famous Rabbis taught than they were with the Scriptures. 2000 years we later we suffer from the same ill, as the American Church pays more attention to the latest Christian best sellers and popular speakers of our day, than it does the actual Word of God. When people don’t really know the God of the Bible, they are prone to put their trust in religious rituals and rules and people. Paul shows us that Abraham’s faith never wavered, because he had a growing relationship with God apart from the rituals and the law and men. When we pay attention to the chronology of the Scriptures, we discover that God had deliberately declared Abraham righteous – way before rituals and laws were ever even established. Boom.
