Paul continues his diatribe in Romans Chapter 2, trying to bring every one of his readers to understand their desperate need for the Gospel. Now the great Apostle is not trying to get his hearers to straighten up and fly right, but rather he is seeking to systematically strip them of any notion of their own righteousness, that they might recognize their need for the person and works of Jesus Christ. Only when a person understands the only acceptable righteousness before God is what has been given to them in Christ, can they approach and have an audience with God without any condemnation at all, knowing that all of their guilt past, present and future was nailed to that Cross.
