Coming to Chapter 13, the writer of Hebrews moves us from the theological to the practical; the vertical to the horizontal; from revelation to response. The Bible teaches that in order to enjoy right horizontal relationships with people, we must first have a right vertical relationship with God. And having described for us how we are to relate to God for 12 Chapters now – he turns and describes for us how we are to relate to one another. The proximity of our relationship and the quality of our communion with Christ – that empowers and enables and drives right relationships with people, both inside and outside the family of God. We don’t conduct ourselves well in order to BE SAVED – but BEING SAVED, we conduct ourselves well for the joy of our own souls, for the welfare of those without hope, and for the glad hearted glory of our God!
